How to
How to avoid getting caught by the news
Nobody loses on CPI because the calendar was hard to read. They lose because they were on the chart and didn't know it was coming. The fix is a warning you can't miss.
In short: SILICON puts a one-line event bar at the top of every page. It shows the next release that matters and escalates on its own: grey when it's hours away, amber within the hour, red in the last fifteen minutes and while it lands. Tap it for the full schedule.
How the bar escalates
- Scheduled (hours away): stated, not shouted. Plan around it.
- Soon (within the hour): amber. Stop opening new risk casually; anything opened now carries event risk it wasn't sized for.
- Imminent (last 15 minutes): red. Liquidity thins, spreads widen and resting stops get taken.
- Live: the number is landing. The bar shows the actual against the forecast.
- Drift window: for the big releases, the bar stays lit for a couple of hours after the print, so you can see whether the move is following through.
When nothing is due in the next eight hours, the bar disappears completely. A warning that's always on is a warning nobody reads.
A simple news routine
- Morning: tap the bar to see today's schedule. Note which releases hit the currencies you trade.
- Before a big one: open Before the Print to see what each outcome could do to your pair. Decide your plan now, not in the moment.
- Last hour: no new trades. Check that open trades have stops that can survive a spike.
- After: wait out the first minutes, then trade only what follows through.
The one rule
If the bar is red, you're not opening anything. Everything else is detail.
FAQ
Which releases does the event bar show?
High and medium impact releases in the next eight hours. Low-impact releases are left off so the bar keeps its meaning.
Should I close trades before news?
It depends on your plan, but at minimum don't open new risk in the last fifteen minutes, and make sure any open trade's stop survives a spike.
Does the bar show results after the release?
Yes. Just after a print it shows the actual figure against the forecast, and for key releases it stays lit through the drift window that follows.
