How to find the strongest currency pair to trade this week

The easiest trends to trade come from pairing the strongest currency with the weakest. The Strength page shows you both, for the week and for today.

In short: open Strength, read the week's board to see which currencies are leading and lagging, then look at today's pick. It offers up to three distinct ideas, so you're not stuck with one, and it waits for confirmation before calling an entry.

Why strength beats picking a pair at random

EUR/USD is two currencies, not one. If the euro is strong but the dollar is stronger, a "bullish euro" view still loses money on EUR/USD. Looking at each currency on its own, then pairing the strongest with the weakest, removes that trap.

Step by step

  1. Start with the week. The weekly board ranks the majors. The top and bottom of the list are where the clean trends usually come from.
  2. Check that today agrees. A currency can be strong on the week and resting today. Strength sizes the week into the day so you can see when both line up.
  3. Read the recommended pair. It's the pairing with the clearest gap between the two sides. Flip through up to three picks; they are chosen to be different trades, not three versions of the same dollar bet.
  4. Wait for the trigger. "At the zone" isn't "enter". Strength shows when the entry is confirmed, when the move has already run away from the zone, and when the idea has expired.
  5. Check the calendar. A big release for either currency can override the strength read for a few hours. The event bar at the top of every page tells you when one is close.

Common mistakes

  • Chasing the strongest pair after the move. Strength tells you the direction, not that it's a good price. Wait for the pullback the trigger is built around.
  • Trading three pairs that are the same idea. Long EUR/USD, long GBP/USD and short USD/CHF is one big dollar bet. Strength flags picks that share a currency on the same side.
  • Ignoring the week. A strong day against a weak week usually fades.

FAQ

What is currency strength?

It's how a currency is performing against all the others at once, rather than against one. A currency that's rising against most of its peers is strong; one falling against most is weak.

Why trade strong against weak?

When one side of a pair has its own reason to rise and the other has its own reason to fall, the move has two engines. Pairs between two strong or two weak currencies tend to chop.

Does the Strength page tell me when to enter?

It points to the pair and the side, and waits for confirmation before it calls an entry. You still decide whether to take it and how much to risk.
